You've gotta be ****ing ****ing me, Marvel. [02 Nov 2009|01:25am]

the_scarlet_ros
[ mood | annoyed ]

To start off, I'm going to precursor this by saying that this really doesn't have anything to do with Gambit. But, it just disturbed me so much, I thought I would share.

So, because I spend WAY too much time online, I stumbled across this the other night.

I'm a Marvel fan. I'm an Anime fan. You'd think I'd be pleased. But I'm not.

Excerpt:

Marvel Entertainment Inc., has partnered with renowned Japanese animation studio Madhouse (Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers) and multiple-Eagle Award winner Warren Ellis to create four all new anime versions of classic Marvel Super Heroes. Get an exciting first glimpse of Iron Man and Wolverine, two of the planned four Marvel Anime series!

These Marvel Anime TV series are being created as a way of merging the beloved Marvel Super Heroes of western culture with the bold animation tradition of Japan. The resulting product will be four visually groundbreaking anime series featuring popular Super Heroes redesigned and repurposed as emerging from the fabric of Japanese culture. The series is expected to begin appearing on the Animax channel in Japan in spring of 2010.

Trailer:

To put it as a friend of mine said, they're raping my childhood. I just don't understand the constant need to try and do more and more weird adaptations of the characters I know and love. Honestly, I just want corporations to stop fucking with the series that I know and love. I mean, XMen: Evolution already made me want to shoot people, and then "Wolverine and the Xmen" or some shit, and now this? To me, it's a bit much. I think it would be nice to just build upon the solid foundations of the comic series, instead of trying to come out with fifty dozen new things every year. It's getting ridiculous. I'll admit, artistically, this is very pretty, but I think at some point, the over-saturation of all things Marvel just... needs to stop.

And the abuse of Wolverine's story needs to just end. For serious. Somewhere, a dead horse is crying out for mercy.

All I've gotta say is: "You've gotta be fucking SHITTING me, Marvel."

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 [25 Oct 2009|03:20am]

[ mood | disappointed ]

Okay, to be fair, I haven't actually played it yet. But, now, I'm not sure if I want to. Aside from my usual aversion to all comic to video game creations (which is why I refuse to pick up XMen Origins Wolverine, aside from the obvious... we all know its bad factor), I was tempted to give Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 a shot. But, while flipping through my GameInformer magazine, I came across an image similar to this:

Sorry I couldn't find a smaller image, but am I the only person who was just a little fuckin' disappointed? A friend of mine argued that he looked great, and maybe, I'm just used to images of Remy like this:

Or, pushing the fangirl in me aside, more accurately, like this:

That I was just left horribly disappointed. Maybe I've been spoiled on Remy over the years, or am just not particularly partial to the change, but this incarnation of him left me rather... disappointed for lack of better phrasing. Am I the only one who thought this?

Excuse the waste of space that constitutes this introductory post, but you seem like a kindly lot and I figured it wouldn't hurt to slip a social entry between the serious fic-age goin' down in this popsicle joint. Fans o' the Ragin' Cajun usually got that good old Southern hospitality anyhow. Enchanté, y'all. I run under a long list of sobriquets on the interwebs, but you can call me Luc. I grew up with two endearingly pompous-ass older brothers whose comic collections span entire walls, and have nurtured a clandestine Gambit obsession in a house where Wolverine and the Phoenix reigned supreme since the early mid nineties. Can't say I play the factual geek very well and I reckon I haven't read nearly as much as the half o' you, but I like to tell myself I know my way around the topic of American comics. Not much for prose-writing myself, but I sure as hell appreciate a good one-shot narrative and the community seems to be crawlin' with them (props). I also enjoy long walks in the city, bourbon and cola on the rocks, and the Delta blues. But this ain't the time or place for that. Here's to our future, mesdames et messieurs.

Bien à vous,
Luc

sometimes a stick is just a stick [29 May 2009|11:45am]

2:10 PM 5/28/09 · When I posted my review for X·Men Origins: Wolverine I was a little surprised regarding this one comment I got relating to Gambit. I've been turning it over and over in my head and I just can't make much sense of it. Which isn't that unusual in anything relating to Gambit because he's a whole mess of contradictions.

For example, when the character was first presented he wasn't exactly how he is seen now. The guy had more than one power. Gambit was ahead of the curve in terms of secondary mutations. In addition to his ability to kinetically charge inanimate objects and throw them with explosive force, he also had hypnotic abilities. He could mezmerize people with his eyes and subtley altering the cadence of his speech, which caught the Shadow King's interest right quick.

Another odd little thing was he didn't use playing cards as his primary weapon. Didn't even carry them. He used metal shards and throwing darts. I've never been able to work out what it was that got them changed to a deck of cards. Hell, unless you're Bullseye playing cards are not the most accurate of weapons!

Anyway, the comment had to do with a fight with Wolverine. The commenter said that there was no way that Wolvie should've been able to cut Gambit's staff in ½ like that since it was adamantium. Ignoring the other little flaw in the film regarding something similar to this, I just couldn't make much sense of that. My comic knowledge is usually pretty damned accurate, up until June 16th of last year when I got laid off, and so far as I recall Gambit has never used had an adamantium staff.

Adamantium being a hard to come by commodity, and expensive as all get out, I can't imagine how he'd ever been able to lay his hands on one in the first place.

My friend, AnnieAnna, was disappointed in his eyes. She said the movie version's eyes were all wrong and made her want to boink him less. The way his eyes are in the comics has driven her mad with lust for years.

Fandom: X-Men movieverse
Characters: Scott (Cyclops), Remy (Gambit), Alex (Havok), and Adam (the X-treme) Summers.
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 920
Disclaimer: 99% of the characters portrayed belong to Marvel Enterprises as well as Stan Lee, Jim Lee (no relation), Chris Claremont and various other writers/artists who have passed through Marvel's doors. While you're here though, Marvel enterprises, how's about more X-Men movies with your shiny new production company?
Author Notes: This takes place in the the same universe as my fic-novel, Elemental, which means that this is post-X2 and ignores X3. It can stand alone although those familiar with comic!verse will probably be wondering why Gambit is in here. ;)

I have a slightly odd request. I stumbled across audiofic recently, I was wondering if anyone could rec me any more Gambit audiofics/podcasts. Preferably slash, and preferably not Gambit/Wolverine (it's just... obvious). I suspect I'm probably being way too specific, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Title: 10 Women Remy LeBeau Never Married (1/?)
Author: ajeanne05
Pairing/Character: Gambit/OC, Gambit/Rogue
Fandom: X-men Evo.
Word Count: 2926
Rating: PG-13
Summary: What if Remy married someone other than Belle for the sake of the Guild? First story in a 10 part series. Each story will feature Remy married to a different woman. I have already decided to do the following parings: Remy/Yukio, Remy/Jubilee, Remy/Carol Danvers and Remy/Rogue. I am also considering Remy/Kitty, Remy/Mystique, Remy/Emma Frost, Remy/Sage, and Remy/Storm. Feel free to suggest pairings, or even create a detailed enough description of your own OC and I'll be sure to credit you if I choose her. Unlike the traditional blurbs in "5 Things" lists each pairing will be a full story. This has been posted to fanfic.net already.
Spoilers: No spoilers really but some knowledge of X-men Evo would be good.
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: I do not own the X-men or make any profit from them.
Author's Note: This story is set in Evo universe after the Apocalypse saga, but it is slightly AU. The X-men have only had contact with Gambit twice. Once when the Acolytes first appeared, and once when he took Rogue to New Orleans. Also, I've changed it so that Rogue has never absorbed Gambit. Any other time that Gambit showed up in the cartoon just mentally erase him. Magneto wanted him for his skills as a thief, not as a fighter, so most of the time he was off on his own. Jean and Scott are 18 and in college now. Rogue and Kitty are seniors (Kitty is younger but skipped a grade). Let me know what you think. Criticism is always welcome.
